... in other news, "Pope still Catholic", "Bears still defecating in arboreal areas".

I used to quite like Which, but recently they do seem to be specialising in research which produces results that define "the bleeding obvious"

Anyone who uses supermarkets and airports would know that.
I have known this for years. Trouble is , if you want to take some booze as a gift it has to go into the checked in luggage. But I have that down to a T, ( still have heart in mouth as I open the suitcase )
Depends what you buy and which airport you buy it in.
Nothing's cheap in airports. I bought a note pad in my local Post Office for 99p. A few days later I saw exactly the same note pad (same make, colour, size, etc) on sale in W H Smith at Stansted Airport for £4.50.
No I saw the light some time ago - especially perfume on the way back from foreign holidays. nearly always cheaper from the right place back home. The exception of course for the great unwashed like me is cigarettes.

I brought much Marsala back from Sicily, san - my checked bag was a disaster waiting to happen - but my pants and socks proved up to the task of protecting the bottles ...

Even Fags are sometimes cheaper in your holiday country, prudie - it's nip & tuck between the shops here in Tavira and Faro airport.
Thing is, lots of the stuff you buy at airports isn't duty free. The duty savings are on booze and cigarettes and there are saving to be made particularly as most spirits sold at supermarkets are 70cl and duty free is 100cl. You can buy something like Mount Gay rum in Barbados duty free for less than a tenner and spend a lot more than that in a British supermarket. As I said, it depends what you buy and where in the world you buy it.
well most of the DF ain't anyway, it's in the EU. Now hang on, going forward we'll get DF again when we leave will we not?
Which? is highlighting something that isn't "bleeding obvious" to very many people - the ones, perhaps, that actually purchase stuff at "duty free" stores at airports.

Unless we end up with 'soft Brexit' (which, at the moment, seems unlikely) the same rules will apply to imports from France, Belgium, Spain, etc as currently apply to imports from Australia, Singapore, the USA, etc.

So yes, 'duty free' will return for imports from the European mainland but it will only apply to 1 litre of spirits (OR 2 litres of wine) AND 200 cigarettes (OR 250g of tobacco):

Purchased perfume for my wife and paid £17 more than necessary at Cyprus airport. Silly me.
Just seen your post, Dave. Tavira - love Tavira! Been there about six or seven times, first in 1986; still remember the first time I got the boat across to the island and walked along that fab beach....
Tavira's top of my list too, Goodgoalie...love so many of the towns on the coast and up in the mountains but will always fit in a stay in Tavira....such a cheery and happy place......and food!....Just bliss....

If you ever want a good massage or pedicure in Tavira I know just the lass...... ;-)
Does she wear Byzance?
No! And she's not getting the last drop in my bottle either.... x

She has slathered me in oils to fend off insects though.......if anyone hugged me I'd be launched off into space....... :-)

Just seen your comments, goodgoalie - I first came to Tavira about 5 years ago - now it's the first place on any holiday destination list that I make.

A lovely, friendly place - so many good restaurants, bars and markets - we haven't even bothered with a hire car this time - everything we need is right here.

We're off back to Pausa this evenng for more tapas - I hope it's as good as last time.
i can honestly say i've never considered buying toblerone or lego at an airport duty free shop
Question Author
I must get my eyes tested - I read that as "legover at a duty free shop" ...
Hi Dave. Is there still a little restaurant called Aquasul in a side street on the other side of the river from the main square? First time I went it was run by a beautiful French woman - think I ate there most nights :)
