To Give Up On An Idea Or Go For It

Hi there. For many years i have struggled with claustrophobia in regards to travelling on buses on trains. I have not been on a 11 years. I have planned many trips only to back out at the last minute, never making it as far as the station. My Godsons confirmation in the Catholic Church in Stockport is in 4 weeks time I was invited just before Christmas. My niece and nephew who are older were confirmed and I never made either of them because of the anxiety mum booked and paid for hotels and train fare in advance and in total lost £400 so they have made their own arrangements this time and dont wish to travel with me as they say my anxiety affects them I can fully understand this. However I really want to go the fear is being on a train and it stopping in the middle of nowhere and I have a mild heart condition Atrial Fibrillation and that the anxiety can cause an attack and I would be in a bad position then. I worry about a whole host of things but if I go at the last minute without planning it spontaneously I dont know what the worst thing that could happen would be planning never works for me as it builds up all week. I could book a hotel on my ipad on the train when I was on my way and I have a very good friend who could look after my cat at the last minute I just would love to see my Godson being confirmed as he is the youngest nephew so it is the last chance I will get. It is a case of either go for it or forget it and not put myself through the stress.

I had severe claustrophobia for over 30 years, I could not go into small rooms, and always looked for an escape route if I went somewhere new, I missed out on church, cinema, theatre etc., THEN I discovered hypnotherapy, I had a wonderful man who cured me, I can go to places that never dreamed of,I get the odd bleep, but talk myself out of it, ask your doctor if they can help, I wish you well, and please believe me I know what you are going through xxx
Try building up to it little by little. Get a bus one stop away from home and then walk back, or wait and get a bus back. Then do the same with trains. Slowly go a little further each time.
Don't just leave it til the last minute to go. Plan your route, get bus and train timetables, write down notes.
Think about how great you'll feel when you manage it.
Good luck, and please let us know about the lovely day you're going to have.

Many years ago I did a course on transcendental meditation which was held on the fifth floor of a building, one poor woman had to take the stairs as she was too anxious to enter the lift, at the end of the course she could use the lift without any problem, it might be worth giving it a shot, good luck.
