Have you recently applied for an ESTA to travel to the USA? I applied for ours today and am not sure what the ESTA document actually looks like. I have the authorization approved papers, which I have printed but is there more to come from the US Customs and Border control?

Thank you very much, Stob. That is really helpful.
Nope. From memory, the printout that you did yourself is the only bit of paperwork that you will get.
As Rocky says, also I have never had the print out checked as it is all available for them to see on their computers at immigration.
Question Author
Thanks, Rocky.

I haven't yet received a verification email yet but I do have a piece of paper that says, at the bottom,....Have a nice trip. Welcome to the United States.
Question Author
Thanks, Islay. I just feel more comfortable with a piece of paper. :-)
Its not instant, when I did it last year it took about 48hours to come through, go back in after 48hours using your reference and you should see it then xx
You don't get an email to say it's been approved. You just have to log in to your account and it will say approved...........hopefully. That's what I did a couple of weeks ago.
Question Author
Thanks, Islay, I will.

Angie, on the link supplied by Stob it says that you might want to print off the confirmation email. So, you don't actually get an email from Homeland Security?
Question Author

'It is therefore judicious to carefully keep this email and your reference number. Ensure you keep it in a safe place after printing it.'
I didn't when we applied. Also looked back to previous applications and didn't get email notification then either. Just logged back in and saw the application had been approved. Also never take a print with us, but do have a note of the ESTA numbers.
Question Author
Thanks, Angie. I have made a note of the numbers and put that inside the passports. I also had to apply for a Canadian ETA. The two systems are very different. I've done a lot of form filling today! :-)
Will you get through quarantine, Tilly :-)
Question Author
Only if I have my teeth filed, Melv. Otherwise, no.
remember to take the shots, including the bovine and ovine ones.....xx
Question Author
Shots? Nobody said anything about shots!
An American weighing 16 or 17 stone plus, usually of female origin, with a syringe in hand.....NO way.....
I always print mine out and take it but they say you don't need to, and nobody's ever asked for it. The only hiccup I've had was when I got an email mid-trip saying they'd determined that I didn't have a machine readable passport, so my ESTA was now invalid.

All nonsense, my passport was fine and I'd just been to the US with it. And I was about to go there again a week later. A very panicky couple of days, before they emailed to say "as you were, we've changed our minds"
