Hi, I am from Scotland and have ALWAYS wanted to go to Blackpool! The rides and the foreworks/shows etc appeals to me a lot! Is this expensive to do with accommodation? Also do you know if I can get the train from Edinburgh? Thanks!

If you go, take a second mortgage out before you do, as it's very expensive for food and drink and the pleasure beach isn't the cheapest either. You could go to much nicer places abroad and it'd be less expensive than going to Blackpool!
its been some years since I went to Blackpool but it was a nice place the tower, and theatres, and markets if you want to go do, there's lots of guest houses and sure you would find one to suit budget and could send to information tourist office for information. this time of the year when the lights are on would be good, and there may be coach trips from your area. best to ask at station if trains go direct. Have a nice time, I don;t think meals are too expensive and plenty of fish and chips ! go for it if you always wanted to If we throught about cost wouldn't go anywhere. Edinbugh is great been a number of times would love to visit every city in uk .

I think the Mac Lad is spot on. There are many many more pleasant places to visit than Blackpool and yes it is not cheap. We went there recently to see a couple of friends and stayed in a hotel - dear God what a hovel. It was flagged by the local council as four star!!!!! If you absolutely must get it out of your system stay in the Travel Inn / Lodge near the airport. It is only a bus ride from the tower and has guarenteed standards whilst being inexpensive I think around fifty pounds a night for a double.

Take a tip like go to Prague with a budget airline from Stansted and have a cheap weekend. Loads of inexpensive and clean hotels, fabulous place and cheap, quick and easy to get there.

I think the answer from pega was spot on. Blackpool is a place you either love or hate and it's most certainly not my cup of tea. Having said that, a trip to the Pleasure Beach and the Illuminations has got to be on everybody's "must do" list at least once.
Many coach companies offer short breaks, but there is usually plentiful accommodation available at all sorts of prices. If all else fails why don't a few of you get together, share the driving [only 200 miles or so each way] and make a day trip out of it? Going by rail takes forever and is ultra expensive.

You'll have to be quick as the Pleasure Beach and Illuminations finish around 6th November.

The train from Edinburgh is easy - Virgin run to Preston and it's about 20 minutes from there to Blackpool North Station.

While Blackpool may not be the nicest place I believe it is the duty of all Scots to visit at least once. Its a bit like Mecca but for Jocks. I have never been on a night out in Blackpool without seeing Scottish sick.

Blackpool is an absolute must. I was there earlier this year with friends for a fantastic weekend. We got a really good deal at the morbidly charming Grand Metropole - you may not be so lucky when the Illuminations are on.

The Tower is a must, not cheap but it includes the excellent circus (don't scoff - it really is very good) and tickets are cheaper if you buy them online.

As other posters have pointed out, there are "nicer" places elswhere, but that's not the point. It is not just one but several parallel universes. One minute you're in the baroque decadence of the Tower Ballroom, next minute tiptoeing gingerly through bodily fluids donated generously on the pavements outside.

Have a great time!

I'm glad you got some positive replies do go as been said the scots go a lot and a friendly place, its taken me down memory lane and inspired me to go again, glad people liked the tower not quite the same as paris but nice. if you go post how you got on and enjoyed trip.
