Where Can I Celebrate My 60Th Birthday ? Ideas Welcome
I am 60 next August and my husband and I have decided to celebrate !
Required location needs to be child free -quiet -scenic - warm/ hot - not touristy - offering activities such as swimming and walking and preferably offering a bit of culture !
My other half will not consider mainland Asia or South America or Africa!
So , answerbankers - any suggestions ?
Ps - currently in Lake District - fab place but a bit wet this week hence me thinking ahead !

Thanks all - Madeira ok but not what I hadn’t in mind , we have already walked the length of Hadrian’s wall a few years ago , countryside nice , Newcastle and Carlisle sections an eye opener in how miserable some people home areas are and how some people just litter everywhere - would not repeat - not ready for a cruise yet - have already a-nice weekend in London planned for later this year - Malta is a good idea - we will research that - thanks
Current thinking - a few nights in expensive but so worth it St Moritz - stunning scenery - lovely mountain walks and the best breakfasts in the world !

Sharrow's Bay, Ullswater
New Zealand, Cape Kidnapper's, Huka Lodge or Kauri Cliffs but a small fortune.
Closer to home, Tremolat in the Dordogne and this marvellous hostelry.... https:/ /www.vi eux-log is.com/ en/

If you have walked the length of Hadrian wall you have passed some of the most beautiful unspoilt countryside in the UK. Why spoil it by making orny comments on some of the housing you saw in Carlisle & Newcastle!
60th Birthday well the world seems to be your oyster though St Moritz is overrated if you ask me. A river cruise on the Danube might be nice as there are plenty of stops to see culture and stretch your legs.

Liguria might suit you. There are some lovely little towns and villages, such as Rapallo (my favourite) and Santa Margherita (made famous when Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton had a home there), as well as the billionaire's playground, Portofino.

For hill-walking you've got Cinque Terre right on your doorstep:

The bustling city of Genoa is just a short hop on the train from any of the coastal resorts there:

While Liguria is, understandably, popular with tourists, it's definitely not 'touristy'. Worth considering, perhaps?
