Toronto Or Vancouver

We're thinking about a city break to Canada in mid October. Undecided which of the two cities to go to.

Has anyone got any reasons to go/not go to either of them?

Vancouver every time. 40% of its residents are of immigrant heritage - it's an incredibly diverse city.....

Have done both. Definately Vancouver. Easy public transport. Well laid out for walking. To me more interesting things to do and see. Lots for kids if you have them.

Both cities are great, but of the two I much preferred Vancouver. Great restaurants, harbour and spectacular scenery. Whale watching, saw three pods of orcas.

However, I went in August with good weather. October will be colder and maybe the trips I went on may be not so enjoyable

In Toronto again, there are great restaurants, you also have the CN Tower and you are not too far from Niagara.

Thanks all. A lot of the hotels coming up for Vancouver are on Vancouver Island. Should we stay there, or in the city?

Hi, Rocky......Vancouver for me too but do have a google around about the weather. It's usually okay in October and you have the advantage of fewer tourists so less crowded.
Rain usually begins in Nov but could, I guess, come early....have a look..x

Careful - Vancouver island is 300 miles long and has its own towns.
Victoria (the largest town/city) is worth staying at just like Vancouver itself. Lovely, lovely place

Stay in Vancouver and take day trip to the island.

For me it was stay in the city and ferry to the island...I seem to recall the ferry being ridiculously inexpensive! But we lived in Calgary so could visit often.
If you're planning a one off trip do your research for what you most want out of the trip....the city and the island are both wonderful...x

Thanks Gness and JJ. Weatherwise I'm not overly fussed, as October is pretty much the only time I can go this year, due to my work.

Just a bit confused as to whether to stay on the Island or over in the city. Is the city easy to get to from the Island?

warmer and drier in Toronto (on average - can't make any promises for next October, of course). Toronto is within reach of Niagara too, but otherwise Vancouver is better for "out of town".

Hmmmm. Just had a read of that, Gness. I'll have to have a good look about what's on offer in the city, and the Island, and then make my decision.

Vancouver, without a doubt. It is a beautiful city, albeit a bit hilly!

How long have you got? I would try to go to both, but Vancouver would be my first choice. But if you fly to Vancouver, stay a few days then fly to Toronto, you’d be halfway home!

I`ve been to both and I would't say either of them are going to be terribly exciting in October. The weather can be a bit grim in both places. I would say that Vancouver might have the edge over Toronto at that time of year.

You could always do what we did though - fly to Toronto, get the Viarail to Vancouver and fly home. Viarail sell off their seats/cabins on the cheap a few weeks beforehand if they can't sell them. A good way to see Canada (we did it in the middle of winter which was great because I wanted to see the snow) and it was a great experience

Actually if I was you, I would go to Seattle. A very nice city and more to do than Vancouver.

But if you are going to stay there then stay on the island.
