nice places to live near London's square mile

Hi there everyone,

My husband and I are thinking of renting (or buying) a house that is within easy commutable distance to London's square mile. We have small children and I am a stay at home mum. We are thinking of this due to the massive amount of time my hub has to spend travelling every day.

So, anyone have an opinion on a nice place to live that is within easy commute to London? somewhere that is not too grey, violent, filthy etc....built up but in a tasteful way?
