Amsterdam And Antwerp

My best mate has recently come into a bit of coin (inheritance) and has booked a small cruise for us both, stopping in Amsterdam and Antwerp.
Can anyone recommend places to visit in these places (apart from the red light district...)?
(Antwerp is pretty much mapped out, more Amsterdam that we would be interested in, thanks)

A canal trip in Amsterdam is a good way to see the city - trips leave from the train station.

into art? The Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum; plus Rembrandt's house.

If not into art, ignore all that and maybe have a cruise round the canals and a meal in an Indonesian restaurant.

We are going end of October (31st) for a 4 day cruise, hope red light area is still going then Tony...its what Amsterdam is all about ;-)

Ive only been out of the country twice in my life (Dublin & Benidorm) so am not a seasoned traveller. Is Amsterdam all within walking distance of the docks or is transport needed (bus/train) to enjoy a day there?
