Because if it sunk in that it is a huge risk of loss of life they may realise it wasn't in their interest to try to enter a country illegally as if they had some imagined global right to go anywhere they pleased.

Because keeping people safe from drowning and protecting our borders are not actually mutually exclusive - it is possible to do both.

Beside the point , but the best estimates are that there is only a 1 in a 100 chance of getting caught ! So they will just try again ! The Home Office do their best to put people off though ! By publisising this sort of data !

How can that be? Go out into the Channel, pick them up so that they don't drown, then bring them to our shores, then open up our borders and let them in.

How can that be 'protecting our borders'?
