I Never Knew That

Had to drive to Coventry Foodbank Warehouse today to pick up surpless stock.
Never been to Coventry in my life. Was surprised to see signs for Coventry airport.
NEVER knew that Coventry had an airport and surprised to see so many low flying craft. Would have thought that nearest airport would have been Birmingham.

Always like to learn a new bit of trivia.
Anything surprised you?
Any triv you've come across incidently?

I used to drive to Birmingham airport quite a lot but always took the Coventry route so I actually knew that :-)

Coventry Airport was used for charter flights and then, later on, for scheduled services operated by ThomsonFly and WizzAir. However all passenger services ceased in 2009. It's now used solely for private aircraft.

Back in my trade-plating days, I often had to collect vehicles from a depot on the edge of the airport, so I frequently saw aircraft taking off and landing there.

I know Coventry well....I went to University there. The surprising thing...it's called The University of Warwick!

Coventry airport was the home of Air Atlantique, who flew DC3s and DC6s. DC3s have been described as "a collection of parts flying in loose formation" and 80 years after their introduction a good few are still flying, including 2 aircraft from the former Air Atlantique fleet.
