Well done Tony, quick off the mark tonight. I was catching up on other AB sections when Steff posted.
Hi Arky, all well I hope ?
Hi Steff. We're both not too bad thanks, although I've been visiting my brother in hospital, where he's just had an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm repair. Luckily when I had my routine AAA check years ago no problems were found.

// Was that a family thing, that you had check ups for aneurysms ? //
Steff, no an ultrasound scan of the abdominal area is now routinely offered to all males in their 65th year. Family history can come into it, although there have not been any instances in my family as far as I know. My brother didn't have a routine scan as they were only introduced some time after he turned 65, but before my 65th four years later.

Hi Steff. I've only just logged back on. My brother had a hernia repair two months ago, then for some reason he had a scan which showed up a mass in his abdomen. I don't know if one of the doctors felt something at the time, or if the scan was a routine follow-up. I'll ask him when I next go to visit and let you know. If your Mother suffered from an AAA then you and your children should be checked from aged fifty on a regular basis (although I don't know if such scans are offered in Australia).
