Since the collapse of TC,
I’ve been looking for Lanzarote flights in March to visit friends there, what used to average £250 is now double that, they’ll kill tourism at the rate they are going

I am not sure that is a bad move - might make some people think about their carbon footprint? Can't all be Royals :)
I only paid £254 in total for two return flights to Ljubljana next year, including hold luggage and extra legroom seats, but that was just before TC collapsed.

I realise it’s all supply and demand but to double prices?
That’s very good Lcg
We are off to Cyprus next weekend, had a nosy at the flights the other day, they had more than doubled since we bought ours.
It's just temporary profiteering, soon be back to normal.
Maybe a good time to get last minute flights then. Must be risking going off half empty.
Where are you travelling from, Bobbi? Have you got a choice of departure airports? What dates are suitable for you? We might be able to find something that you've missed.

For example, I've just tried some random dates from Stansted with Ryanair, out on Monday 9 March and back a week later on 16 March, and I'm seeing £95.98 return. (£44.99 + £50.99).

Perhaps you're looking in the wrong place?
Blackpool again for me then! (Or maybe Skegness)

Around the dates you’ve put Chris 16/03-23/03 from Newcastle,23-30th even better, not sure when Easter falls in 2020, I’ll need to check ( thanks )

Easter Sunday is 12/04
When holidaying in France over recent years, I've often considered going a day earlier and catching the TGV but last minute flight options(like RyanAir flying to Beziers, 15 minutes from the villa) have always proved fruitful.

Might actually do it next year.
One passenger's 'profiteering' is another airline's 'business sense and market forces'.
19 - 26 March from Edinburgh, £182 return, leaves at 06:55. Only a couple of hours up the road. :-)

Not so bad going Douglas but I’ve had friends who’ve done it was a nightmare coming back , all you want to do is get home but the price is good
Yep I've noticed this for Menorca next year. I'm leaving it for now (as Douglas said). They'll probably settle in time - especially as I think other airlines will be after the slots TC have left behind.
davebro, Blackpool turns out a LOT more expensive than a Package trip to Spain or other places in The Med !!!! Once food .drinks and entertainment are included, Blackpool is a loser , not to mention the weather !!! I have been to Blackpool twice ! It rained non stop both times ! You could hardly get inside a pub due to the crush of people trying to get out of the rain ! Then they wanted £2.50 a pint !!! This was back in the 1980s !
It's not just the collapse of Thomas Cook that makes travelling between Newcastle and Arrecife (Lanzarote) a lot harder to plan than it used to be. Ryanair had already announced their intention to discontinue operating on that route from 20 January next year.

So there are just two airlines left on that route and neither of them have flights on Mondays. (So your preferred dates simply aren't possible).

TUI Airways only fly between Newcastle and Arrecife on Thursdays and they're not particularly cheap. Out on 12 March and back on 19 March costs £239 return. Out on 19 March and back on 26 March costs £245 return.

It looks like Jet2 might be your best option. They fly that route daily except Mondays and Wednesdays. Flying out on Tues 17 March and back on Tues 24 March costs £73 + £116 = £189. The following week is better, when flying out on Tues 24 March and back on Tues 31 March costs £73 + £93 = £166.

If you can only travel on Mondays, you'll have to change your UK departure airport. Jet2 fly from Edinburgh to Arrecife. Flying out on 16 March and back on 23 March costs £73 + 132 = £205. Out on 23 March and back on 30 March costs £78 + £97 = £175.

If you live on the other side of Newcastle, then Leeds Bradford might be a better departure option for you. Once again it's Jet2 that operates the route to Arrecife (daily except Tues & Wed). Out on 16 March and back on 23 March costs £85 + £137 = £222. Out on 23 March and back on 30 March costs £70 + £133 = £203.
