I keep getting a painful Sharp pricking sensation in my right eye. The eye was damaged due to a fall about 10 years ago and I have no lens and no iris on that eye.
Until now I have had no problem - keeping the pressure under control and regular yearly checks at the hospital.
The trouble started when I was in Cyprus in September. It continued for a few weeks when I came home and then stopped.
It's not all day every day but it started again today and was so bad I couldn't keep my eye open. It's better now this evening but still feels as if there is something under the lid.
My eye doesn't look red and there is no discharge.
I'm wondering allergy. It's often associated with runny nose.
Thanks.

Thank you good idea Poppy.
Many causes, but by far the commonest is a piece of dust or debris on the cornea.
Wash out the eye, by putting your head under water.e.g.in a basin and then open the affected eye.
Give it over the weekend and if there is no improvement see you GP or as poppy has suggested go to A&E.

Cheers Sqad.
are you on any new medications? read leaflets for any eye effects.
any other medical issues, with bones, or muscles, or BP etc?

and i have an occasional achey eye, i feel the need to press on it to 'relieve' it a bit. ive been checked, and had scans and nothing wrong with the eye itself - though i do have hyperostisis, frontalis interna, which is thickening of the forehead bone, so i personally think its possibly just minor pressure increases in the socket.

there doesnt seem to be a particular reason for it starting to ache though, just random - but there are things that could irritate anyones eyes - such as tiredness, raises in bp, bright lights, noise, allergies etc.
im on medication that causes dry eyes too.

keep a diary of when its bad and what you have done, or taken, and all symptoms and you may narrow dow what sets its it off. and also note the changes, when you take things like anti histamine, eye drops, even nasal douche etc.

hopefully yours is like mine, and just one of those things that anyone can get - but regardless, definitely see your doc, since you already have a pretty serious eye injury it may be something more serious.

Jo that's very helpful. Thanks for that
You much consult a good ophthalmologist. He/she will recommend you appropriate tests and treatment depending on your symptoms.
