With regards to face coverings/masks problems/issues for both yourself and Mr J2, I've no idea if any of these might be of help or worthy of consideration :-

A face-shield is also a face covering (sorry, having one of those moments!) if Mr J2's shop staff can be behind one or even a screen, he can still lip-read?
Also, a face-shield might be less restrictive for you too?
