that will help me to get the tops off bottles that are childproof please?
I'm putting this link on to show the type of thing I mean, where you have to squeeze the sides in and turn.
Due to arthritis, I don't have the strength in my hands to do it, and although I do have a few gadgets, they don't help with this type of top.
I was wondering perhaps some type of small vice where I can clamped the top in so it doesn't move while I turn it.

Hate those, I usually reach for the tool drawer and use the large adjustable mole grips then decant into an easier container.

Mamya's suggestion is better. With the mole grips, there's no need to faff about with screwing something down and then back up:

How much do they open up too? Some of the tops are 2 1/2 " across.

I am having problems with opening up anything these days because of arthritis. My worse problems are with foodstuff that is vacuum packed or pulling those little pull tabs on the top of sauce bottles, etc when you first open them. All these things might be childproof, but they are also old lady proof!

I use a pair of nut crackers, works on some but not all.
As for those plastic supposedly pull off things, I stick a knife in and saw them off.
I wonder if a circle of silicone would help, I’m sure I’ve seen them on line, wouldnt help much with the pressure but would with the grip?

I think the mole grips that Mamya suggested would do, I just need someone to tell me which size to buy.

Barsel, because of the arthritis, might have squeezing the grips on that tool. Since opening the top is the problem, go to the bottom. Using a sharp knife and wearing gloves, cut an X in the base, open the resulting flaps, and empty the pills into another container.

sanmac I didn't know you had to squeeze them, I thought you open them with the screw at the bottom, put the bottle in, tighten the screw and turn?

That's a good idea Sanmac.

Sorry Barsel, the ones I have are ancient and open very wide on an adjustable ratchet.

You still need a decent grip but not as much as without them.

You have to squeeze the one moveable arm on the tool while adjusting the knob until you get the correct tension to remove the cap...Anyway, try it...It might work for you. If it doesn't try getting the pills out from the bottom as I suggested.

jno you're probably right. I suppose if you want them to open up a lot, you would have to buy bigger ones which would then be heavy.

Baby Boa is a handy piece of kit but applies all round pressure - these daft containers require pressure to be applied at two points only,that's what makes them so difficult.
