Police Numbers.

Where have all the police gone?here on the Wirral they are as rare as rocking horse stuff so consequently no visible deterrent. We have a population in excess of 323,000 who are looked after by only 26 “proper”policemen and women together with a smattering of PCSO’s who have no more powers than you or I, when you consider that these are operated on a three shift system and some will be off sick or on holiday it doesn’t inspire confidence does it?

What do you want them to deter people from? We should all be at home except under very prescribed circumstances anyway.

i wonder about policing in the capital, there is a solid presence when there is a demo, or a vigil like for Sarah Everard, but find one around where i am, which is fairly central and you will be looking pretty hard.
two rocked up in the local coffee shop, minus masks, just getting their caffeine intake, that was last time i saw a policeman.

In all honesty though emmie I doubt you've been out all that much in the last year like the rest of us? There could he hundreds if them out there but how would we know?

I also live on the Wirral, and believe me there is no shortage of police driving cars (and vans) down our road at speed, at all hours of the day and night. Having said that, we do live very close to the police station. We had the road resurfaced last week, because, apparently the police complained about the state of the road!!

yes we can all stay at home, but i go out to get somethings from local chemists. Or to waitrose for those forgotten items. And you still don't see any around. only as i said when there is a demonstration of sorts do you see them out in force,

On the last lock down they said because of general crime being way down, town crime at night was way down also because of pubs being closed, and there was really no reason for anyone to be driving around at night without a good excuse, they were doing lots of big time drug raids, because they have the time.

When I was in the Met (almost 15 yrs ago now) the strength was hovering around 27,000.
Now it is around 44,000, 37,000 of which are 'proper' Police officers.

the coast have the same "stay at home" rules that the capital does, so i would imagine that people on the coast are also not out seeing things. Expecting to see a police person when you pop to the chemist is a bit much if you ask me!

Suffolk Police have just yesterday carried out an operation at a travellers site taking over ten hours to seize over 80 stolen dogs and have six people in custody.

emmie I guess Police have been called in from surrounding areas. When I worked in local petrol station as a teanager, local Bobbie would always turn up on his bike to warm himself up, but that was 45 years ago.

Where I live the slightest Motor Accident about 20 Police cars turn up.
