Some people are kicking up a fuss about covid passports because they feel it's an invasion of their privacy, perhaps they should know what is really happening out there;
'The people who stormed the US Capitol on January 6 left digital fingerprints everywhere. Automated licence-plate readers and cameras caught them driving to Washington. Google detected their smartphones via GPS satellites, Bluetooth beacons and WiFi signals. Facebook recorded their livestreams; Twitter, Parler and TikTok captured their videos. AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile logged their GPS locations and metadata. And, using geofence search warrants, the US government seized the data. Using facial recognition technology, it matched them to Yelp profiles. Apple shared their iCloud account information, revealing home addresses and log-in information. Cellebrite technology unlocked and copied the contents of their cell phones.
More than 400 men and women have now been arrested and charged. The investigation has demonstrated once again the total surveillance powers of the US government, social media and tech companies.......'

Could it, or is it happening to you?

When I watch movies, characters in the underworld are continually buying pre-paid phones, making calls & ditching them, I don't know if this is possible in the UK, but it isn't in Germany, here all mobiles must be registered to an individual owner.

yes burner phones are more than possible all you do is buy a sim card for £10 then that £10 goes onto the sim as "credit" kind of thing then you make a call or whatever and throw the lot away they made handsets a bit more expensive you used to be able to get a basic phone for £10 now they are more like £15-25 so burner phones can cost £30 - £50 a pop
here's a phone that can't be traced.....

Whilst the gist of the TLS article is probably correct, I will quibble with some of the detail.
// Apple shared their iCloud account information, revealing home addresses and log-in information. Cellebrite technology unlocked and copied the contents of their cell phones //
Apple do not open iCloud accounts for the Police. Cellebrite cracks iPhone passcodes so iCloud accounts can be easily accessed that way.

Of course we are, Khandro. If not watched then listened to.
I have to have two hospital procedures done close together, arranged some time ago.
This means two five hour round trips over the mountains but hey...has to be done.
On Sunday local friends came to dinner. I was twittering on about this and wondering why I can't have it done in the two minute away surgery. You can, they told me, the surgery will do it.
First thing the next morning the hospital phoned to ask if I'd prefer to use my local surgery rather than the trip over the mountains, through the sheep on the road and crazy tourists driving on the wrong side.
I'm sure Alexa heard me chuntering, reported to the hospital and that's why they phoned me. ;-)
