Whitstable is lovely, with loads of independent shops and plenty of places to eat (many of which specialise in sea food). It's so close to Canterbury that it comes under that fine city's council, meaning that you've also got everything that Canterbury has to offer only just up the road from you.

Sadly, one of the finest B&Bs in the country (the wonderful Copeland House, which was right by the seafront) now seems to have closed down but there are plenty of other places to try around the town, including Cliftonville House (which is rated 'Excellent' on TripAdvisor):
