we are taking my 2 small boys to Edinburgh in the new year (ages 16 months and 31 months) as a treat .Does anyone have any ideas to keep the little ones amused? I have thought about the zoo but we are car-less while we are up there and are staying in the city centre for 3 days.I have looked on websites but was wondering if there is anything specifically around the area that children would enjoy.

First suggest have a look at http://www.edinburgh.org/ and follow links to attractions pages.

Tons of kids stuff. Camera Obscura, the Castle, Museum of Childhood, the City Art Centre has the life of Hans Christain Anderson and his fairy tales in an interactive display, Our Dynamic Earth for touchy feely attraction about the planet - but may be too much for the very young and there are lots of others you may just come accross.- all close walking.

There is a Pass that gives free bus travel all round the City and entry to nearly all the attractions as well. You can get this off the above web site I think and so turn up with the whole trip in place rather than try to find things to do on day 1. The zoo is only 15 mins from the centre and not a problem to get the regular bus for a visit if you don't want the Edinburgh Pass option.

Enjoy the visit!

you cud go to the beach. it's about a 15minute bus ride n it's sandy and has quite alot of things to do. U can catch it on Princes Street.
