Despite having 70% of the worlds fresh water Antarctica is considered to be the driest continent on Earth. There is very little precipitation and any that does fall does not melt.

It is also covered in a sheet of ice 7,000 feet thick which, should it ever melt, would raise the sea levels all across the globe by an estimated 200 feet. Enough to submerge much of the Gulf and Atlantic coastal areas of the US.
