Is it, though? It borders Northern Ireland so isn't surrounded by water

the island itself is called ireland
on that island you have both NI and RoI

The ads are joint initiatives by the tourist boards of Ireland (the country) and Northern Ireland (the country) to promote Ireland (the whole island).

Ireland is one of the islands of the British Isles.

The Republic and the North jointly promote Irish tourism. Similar to Turkey and Greece cooperate to promote mediterranean tourism.

I always think of Ireland as Éire, or the Republic of Ireland. I understand the terminology of the advert now, thanks
