I would like to buy a second hand caravan or static home and keep it permanently on a holiday park, has anyone done this? Is this something you can do? If so please could someone recommend some good parks in the south.

We bought a static caravan years ago but it was already sited. They were very strict about the age of caravans, after about 8 years they had to be removed so I'm not sure if the sites would allow you to bring your own onto the site. It also became very expensive, the annual charges even then were phenominal and if you sold your caravan they took a percentage, something like 15-20%, of the selling price.
When we lived in Germany and had a touring caravan we would leave it on one site for most of the season and that worked out cheaper.
Got friends who leave their caravan on a campsite year round (costs about £30 to store it there) and when they want to use it, the site drags it onto the pitch and then they just pay the pitch price per night. I have other friends who did the same although they no longer have their caravan.
That's £30 per month, by the way (west country prices)

Thanks both so I’m better off getting a caravan as opposed to a static caravan. Do you have any suggestions of sites?
Depends where you are and where you are thinking of. 'In the South' is quite a large area!
Have a look here Molly and see what you think.

Father in law had three. Never made a penny. Lost quite a lot of money. Bad deal.

We had a static caravan near Bournemouth somw years ago but eventually sold it. As Zebo says site fees, insurance, cost of gas cylinders really started to get really high so we "gave up".
Sorry
