I wish to travel overland from Bangkok back to London. This will mean requesting a visa to enter Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and China without an onward ticket out of each respective country. Is this possible?

with most of the countries, u will need to show an itinery of ur trip if no tkt and hold enough funds for ur trip and to buy a tkt,

the embassey in the uk for most of these countries will issue u a visa but that still does not mean that the border crossing guards/immigration have to let u in,,

as mentioned earlier they might need to see a tkt or prove of funds like credit card etc, and propose journey and dates,,
