Does anyone know how I could obtain the cheapest return ticket, with a seat reservation (Glasgow/Manchester) to travel in about a months time?

A Virgin Value single in each direction is the best bet if available. From the trainline as above or the Virgin trains site. Can't recall if the trainline charges a credit card fee - Virgin definitely does not.

The same tickets will be on sale at Glasgow Central if you are nearby and want to make a trip to the booking office.

Main point is you need to book now, not just before you travel as there is a quota of cheap tickets which sells out fast on popular trains

Virgin often have special offers in feb. Keep lookung at their website.
