How much should I expect to pay for transfers from the airport to the Cannaregio area of Venice.I don't want to get ripped off. Also is it possible to eat out on a budget.I've heard some real horror stories as regards to restaraunt prices.I'm going on 5th February

Dont know about the transfers but a ferry runs to Venice and it's cheap, however please for the sake of your wallet/purse DO NOT eat or sit down or do ANYTHING in San Marco's square apart from walk around. I was there in 1990 and it cost over �38 for a cheeseburger, and,as soon as we sat down we were serenaded by these wandering musicians who also wanted paying, however we didnt discover this until after the perfomance. Dont even think about a Gondola ride unless you have recently won the Lottery

Venice is rightly a very beautiful city, but the nearer San Marco square you are the more expensive the prices are. If you wander around there are some very reasonable cafes etc.

Buses in Italy are dirt cheap. Taxis are about the same price as they are (outside of London) in this country.

If you're flying to Marco Polo airport, the dedicted transfer bus to the city centre costs 3 euros (although, for real economy, you can travel for just 1 euro on the local service):

If you're flying with Ryanair, Transavia or Basiq-Air, you'll land at Treviso Airport. The dedicated transfer bus, to the city centre, will cost you 4.50 euros:

All major tourist cities have their 'tourist trap' cafes and restaurants. Equally, they've all got plenty of cheap, quality eating establishments. Why? Because the local workers have got to eat somewhere and they're certainly not going to pay 'silly' prices! As in any other city, just look around the back-streets to find out where the locals are eating and you'll have no problems.

was there for a few days in 2003 many of the restraunts had a tourist menus that ranged from 10 - 20 euros per person. some of the combinations seemed odd but the food was well cooked and tasty and good value for money. the water buses are a cheap way to travel especially if you get the ones that are for ?72 hour duration.
