New Camcorder - Format Sd Card??

I have just bought a cheap camcorder for my hols and it says in instructions 'before use format the 32gb sd card which comes with it.'

I have had loads of cameras and tablets and I have never done this and they all worked immediately so what do I do please?

Have never seen a message before when putting the sd card in!

Do I do it on my PC first?

Put the card in the camera, select menu.

There should be an option to format the memory card

Went into menu but could not see anything! So I put the card in the slot and started using the camera and then connected it to my PC with usb lead that came with it and the video appeared OK!

So seems ok anyway with format

Most new Sd cards are now already formatted in the most, by far, commonly used FAT32 system. Most digital cameras, mobile phones and PCs are set up to use the FAT32 file system.A card will work whether it has been formatted or not anyway, unfortunately it can leave it prone to corrupt files and storage being designated to random blocks meaning you do not get the full storage potential and could lose your data or images. I think that the sales packaging on most cards tells you whether it is pre-formatted including Sandisk, Kingston, Lexar and Gigastone.
