Zanzibar
Can any seasoned traveller to Zanzibar with Tui give us some pointers? We want a resort which will not be too far from Zanzibar's main town and historic places. Too often these resorts are in the middle of nowhere or by a small village with little to do whch keeps you in the resort. Method in that madness! Many thanks :-)

Zanzibar City, along with historic attractions such as Stone Town, is located half way down the west coast of the island. However nearly all of the resorts in Zanzibar (irrespective of your choice of travel company) are on the east coast.
Tui offers four resorts in Kiwenga (a third of the way down the east coast), one in Marumbi (midway down the east coast), one in Matemwe (a quarter of the the way down the east coast), one in Paje (three quarters of the way down the east coast), one in Jambiana (towards the southern end of the east coast) and two in Nungwi (at the northern tip of the island). None of them are anywhere close to Zanzibar City.
In terms of distance, the best you could get would be to opt for Marumbi but Paje might have better road links to the city.
If you can change your choice of travel company, this would seem to be the ideal resort choice for you. (It's just about the only main resort on the west coast):
