Are there any alternative ways to travel to Australia other than flying? Can you go by boat or is only freight allowed on them?

u can get to australia by boat,,

i think it take's about 2mths-3mths,,

There are round the world cruise ships that sell tickets for individual legs of the trip. Only a few trips a year though.

There are probably freighters that take passengers. They will cost as much as the cruise if not more.

There are passenger/cargo boats still in business, probably more than you think. I have often had a look via Google (but can't remember addresses). Generally speaking they are not cheap but considering the length of time for the jouney don't work out too bad. Definitely look at the passenger/cargo (anything from 10 to 30 passengers) rather than cruise ships. It seems very relaxed, good accommodation (above deck) with good food and drink. Go for it.
