From the website run jointly by the Spanish Embassy and the Spanish Tourist Office in London:
"A full British passport, valid for the duration of the visit, is required to enter mainland Spain, the Balearic and Canary Islands. "

So it seems that you should be OK. If you want to double-check, phone 0207 486 80 77 (0915 - 1615 Monday to Friday) or e-mail [email protected]

If, however, you decide to renew your passport anyway, you should note that there seem to be some long delays for postal applications. (Our regional TV news recently carried an item about a family in Luton who've been waiting over 3 months for their passports). You'll probably have to apply in person.

Most travel agencies require at least 3 months duration of the passport to cater for possible emergency problems, check with your tour operator and airline, a bit late to turn up and be refused travel.

Do you really mean March 05?

Even if you do I've seen a reliable report that Spain will accept UK (and German, but no other) passports that are up to one year out of date. I'd be very reluctant to rely on it though. It's the sort of rule which even if true most officials probably wouldn't know about.
