http://www.santo-domingo.net/climate-en.html for south coast weather. there are few sites that give youhistory for different parts of the country - north coast or south, etc Try http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/DominicanRepublic.htm and choose location and then history for October.

Can be last of the hurricanes around then, but in general expect really good temps and sunbathing.

Been there before (south copast) and a brilliant stay - get around to see more than just a resort and you'll have a great time. Santo Domingo was excellent and well worth a visit; try the rafting; food is superb and the service 5 star even in the out of the way locations. Diving there is ace as well!

Watch out for some of taxis - they have a 'drive in the shade' way of tackling oncoming traffic and some of the cars look like rejects from a scrap heap! Male macho means they drive fast as well, but in general, the offer of free ice creams if you get stuck in traffic, very friendly people and an interesting culture means you should have a good time.

There are the usual warnings about street crime, but everywhere in the world has the same, and we experienced absoultely nothing unpleasant like that. Even the street traders are polite and not as persistent as say, Jamaica, or some other islands.

have a good time..
