There are various activities available. As well as the usual hotel based ones, there are quad bike/camel safaris out into the desert, trips to St Catherine's monastery, trips up into the Sinai mountains to see the sun come up/ set etc. Plus Sharm itself is now a fairly cosmopolitan resort.

I'm sure you'll love it.

PS- as well as snorkelling, it is a great place to have a try dive.

My bloke is a dive master and he has been to Sharm and he was absolutely horrified at the lack of safety with the dive boats, equipment and planning of the dive, he will not be returning unless he takes all his own gear. his diveclub all went and they took everything to be sure they came home. he also said the airport is awful and there isn't much to do in the evening apart from drink in the bar and u can't dive withion 24 hours of having any alcohol.

dot.hawkes- with all due respect- most of the established dive outfits in Sharm are fine- they would go out of business PDQ otherwise. I will agree that hire dive kit is never as good as personal kit, but then most divers I know that go to Sharm, or any other overseas dive centre take their own kit anyhow. Sheer numbers of divers in the water can occasionally cause a few problems on a couple of the most popular dives sites, but by no means is this across the board, as you have implied.

Sharm airport IS absolute chaos, mainly due to the fact that the resort is becoming more popular with Eastern Europeans, who don't believe in queuing- this makes check-ins and getting through immigration pretty horrendous, if you happen to arrive at the same time.

With respect to there not being much to do in the evenings except drink- there are as many options as you would find in any other holiday resort- restaurants, shopping (they stay open late), a few nightclubs, etc etc - and yes, you can drink if you want.

To say you can't drink within 24 hours of diving is wrong- you can, but not to the extent of being massively hungover and affected the next day. Besides which, the original post didn't mention anything about diving- quibbmedusa mentioned snorkelling.

From personal experience, I have to disagree with much of your answer- sorry.

I have to agree with scubadiver. Good all round resort for activities, sun and fun. As for the airport, well to me that's part of the egyptian experience! I'm sure you'll have a great time.
