I am going to visit Luxor Egypt in the summer and have read some very bizzare things! Does anybody know what medication I will need and also any travel or packing tips?

What do you mean by bizarre things? I went in the 90's and had a fab time and am visiting again later this year. You need vaccinating against various things (your doctor will tell you) and I would definitely take some medication for an upset stomach/diarrhea.

Take a hat and lots of loose, long sleeved cotton clothing, I went in May and it was VERY hot - all the excursions etc started at ridiculous hours in the morning to avoid the heat. Also may need to cover your arms/legs when visiting certain places.

And take lots of small change/sweets/pens as there are lots of kids that beg in the streets, they are happy with small items not necessarily money and egyptians want tipping for everything!

We went the first week of Feb - tan is fading fast! - went to Sharm el Sheikh but had day trip to Luxor - went to the Valley of the Kings / Valley of the Queens / Luxor Temple / Karnak Temple / trip on the Nile - a long wonderful day! - we did not get bothered by 'beggars' but agree with the tipping.. we had no injections or nor did we have any problems with our stomachs.

summer in Egypt is very hot. But there's nothing else that's bizarre, though the constant requests for backsheesh may be tiring. CheekyChops' advice is good.

Firstly enjoy the trip. Only drink bottled water, dont touch ice in drinks, ice cream, water melon or salads as they are washed/made/grown with tap/local water. large sun hat to avoid sun stroke and take diarrohea tablets just in case.Best of luck

hey kezleybop, may I say that first of all I am an egyptian living in Wales and I take it upon my self to go to Egypt every summer. Now even though there is speculation about water, don't worry about it! Make sure you take cheeky chops advice to heart and make sure that you eat in well known restaurants also there are lots of new american style malls that will suit you're every need and at a good price, enjoy you're trip - egypt, where everyone wears a smile!
