Probably a silly question but when you go on a safari in Africa what happens if you need the loo? Do they have toilet stops or what cos obviously you can't just get out for one when lions etc are about?!

So GlitteryPink - you booked a safari during your Watamu trip. So did we - we are going on the red elephant safari as we have 3 kids with us and I reckon a 2 day safari should be enough. As for the loos - will let you know when I get back on the 15th!!

Weather looks pretty grotty for May tho......

Haven't booked it yet, we're deciding between red elephant and Masai, or trying to scrape enough pennies to do both!! I only ask because I can be rather prone to errmm... "holiday tummy"!! Am sure I'll be fine tho, fingers crossed! Haven't looked at the weather too much, am a bit worried about June too. You must be leaving very soon Ali, have a brilliant time! Be sure to post a thread in travel when you get back to let me know how you got on! Happy hols!

GlitteryPink - yup, leaving on saturday. We have upgraded the boyfriend to economy plus as he's so big and they are doing deals on the upgrades at the mo - 60 instead of 120. had my jabs, got the malarone (Tesco's is the cheapest!) and the kids are packed. Just me to organise now. Will post a thread when I get back, so keep an eye out for it. We are still in 2 minds re Mosquito nets so its a shame you're not going first!!

Speak to you mid May!!

As In A Pickle says, they're not too long, and generally there'll be a break mid day for lunch/hide from the heat of the sun and plenty chance to got to the loo. You'll be so carried up in the excitment of the spotting the animals the time will fly past and before you know it'll be over. Savour every minute, it's such a magical experience. I'm soooo jealous of you going I'd love to go again!

Thanks for that Ali I will go to tesco then! We were considering upgrading for the flight too but decided to just grin and bear it in economy! Am hoping to try and blag an upgrade for free! I thought I read something about mozzie nets in the hotel, or maybe that wasn't watamu. Will await your return! Have a brilliant time! X

Thanks everyone. We decided against the mosi nets for the hotel but as you say in a pickle the safari lodges do provide them - its just Watamu Beach Resort that doesn't. Got mosi plug ins for the rooms and loads of repellent sprays. Looking to upgrade (hopefully for free) at least one of the children so their father has company on the flight. Will post a thread on travel when I get back

you don't usually go on safari all day. Returning to your camp/lodge for lunch is normal (the animals are doing the same so are harder to find). Also, it's usual to start at dawn and have a morning tea stop somewhere safe. But if you really are caught short, ask your driver. There'll usually be somewhere safe to pull over. It's not like being in an enclosed game park, you're not surrounded by hungry lions and stampeding elephants 24/7, there'll be long periods where you see nothing more than the occasional warthog. Have fun!
