Hi josie boy, we went to Tunisia a few years ago. If I remember correctly we had to take travellers cheques and the hotel changed them for us.

It was also illegal to take any Tunisian money out of the country. Whether this has changed now i'm unsure.

Hope this helps.

not sure if tunisia is one of those countries that only lets you buy it there, and dosent let you take it out,but if you can buy it here most banks will do you travellers checks,if you want cash, the post office or marks & spencer are the best usually.

I went to Tunisia last year & we had to change our money when we got there at the airport or the hotel.

Apparently you can't change cash before you get there & you can't take their money back out of the country either.

went at xmas and you need to change your cash there, you can do this at the airport or at your hotel, we landed late and when we got to the hotel they opened the exchange bureau so we could get money

when we went we found it far easier changing cash rather than travellers cheques. i know people recommend the cheques for safety etc but the standard of hotels in Tunisia is very very good and the majority will have safes in the room if you wanted to put your cash in there. You'll also avoid any hidden charges that very often get charged to change cheques. There's not an awful lot to spend your left over Dinars on at Monastir airport so i'd advise you to get rid of most of the small stuff and change the larger notes back into sterling before you leave the hotel if you're using that airport. Tunis airport may be different however.
