USA PS2 compatability with UK
2 Answers
I have noticed that PS2's are still miles cheaper in the USA than the UK ($199.99 for basic pack = 125....). Only problem is that I', not sure if it would be compatable with the UK. I know the USA uses a different voltage for its power supply, also would UK version DVD's and Games work on it. I don't really want to pay the rip-off prices they charge here but I don't want to waste my money on a PS2 that won't work here. Incidenttally, a basic PS2 with one controller on UK Amazon costs : 159.99 and in USA Amazon costs $199.99. Memory card = 25.99 USA=$24.99 ( around 15)... bla bla bla, Im not even going to bother anymore. One last question, even if the actual PS2 console is not compatable will the memory cards, controllers and games from the USA be compatable with UK consoles.
I know its a long(ish) question and I did babble a lot but I REALLY need to know.

There is also a difference in DVD regions between the US and UK. As for the peripherals, I suspect the controller and memory cards will work in either. I, too, couldn't believe the price of a UK memory card! It seems Sony is making a loss on the console and is making up for it on the peripherals.
I would think the main problem is that the tv standards are different. Unless you have an NTSC television, an American PS2 will not work with it. The UK uses PAL. This has always been a problem as VCRs and other devices are also alot cheaper in USA. I think there are some multi-standard sets available here these days, though, but if you don't have one the PS2 would be un-usable.
