I noticed cameras being installed on the M6 around Junction 35 northbound, (Morecambe area) last week. They look like CCTV type cameras and are on poles about 20ft tall. Strange thing is they are every hundred yards for nearly a mile. What are they for and why so many so close together. Anyone know?

sounds like they are going to be digging the road up and will be operating a free breakdown recovery whereby you just wait by your car rather than walking to nearest emergency phone.

There are too many close together for that I would say and they are definately permanent the way they are installed.
There are 67 cameras on poles all on the northbound side for monitoring traffic (including breakdowns) through the existing coned roadworks area and extending to the further proposed roadworks.

thanks Mike, just noticed last week that road works are now in place for 9 months. Makes sense now though still a lot so close together. Must have cost a fortune.
