Regardless of whether he's a little boy racer or a company director i hope it's loss of licence for as long as possible....a 30 mph zone is a residential area where kids could be playing and if you collide with a person at 30 mph there is a very good chance they will survive at 40 much less so and at 50 only about a 10% chance (Govt figures) so it is reckless endangerment of life he should be charged with not a motoring offence.
I was caught doing 36 in a 30. My fault, no excuses. Northants C C run a speed awareness course. You have to pay them the 60 rather than the Police, so its still a fine of sorts, the course lasts 3 hours, but you get no points. They said at one place they caught a bloke doing 60 in a 30 and he lost his licence for 28 days, so beware. As a matter of interest, the fastest speed they caught on a camera in Northants was in Northampton town centre, 2pm in the afternoon, and someone went by at 113 mph. I know the bit of road and have no idea how they did it!!!
I think you'll find that the points are put on rather than taken off. I got three and a 60 fine for doing 48 in a 40 zone on a dual carriageway where the speed limit drops sharply. My fault entirely for not seeing the camera warning sign or the big yellow box itself in time. I was rushing to get to the bedside of a sick relative and it taught me a valuable lesson about concentrating on the job in hand and not driving on autopilot. It may cost your boyfriend in cash, but it may save his, or someone else's, life.
Well as you are all so interested, the bloke said the camera that the bloke went by at 113 was the one on the Harborough Road. If you come down Boughton Green Rd(RCP) and turn left toward Kingsthorpe, past the Cock Hotel and the camera is at the next set of lights by Grose's (but the other side of the junction).
Shanley, there is no need to shout. I, and others, simply expressed our opinions about speeding in 30 mph zones. I understand what you are saying about it 'normally' being a 70 mph limit but the facts are that temporary restrictions are clearly signed and, in fact, are there to protect the workforce and also drivers who may well be driving in narrow lanes etc. If the incident took place at say, 3am, when no work was being done then your boyfriend may well get away with it.. However, we must all remember that speed limits are there for a reason and are to be obeyed.
Shanley, travelling at twice the speed limit whenever or wherever is a totally irresponsible act. Your boyfriend deserves to be heavily fined, banned from driving and locked up for a while to reflect on his actions. As you seem hellbent on defending him then perhaps you should also be locked up until you cool down.
Shanley, your last response read as if your boyfriend was speeding to find out what the penalty would be. If there were no clear warning signs that there was a speed restriction as you seem to suggest, it would be worth his while defending his case. We've ALL done things impulsively and lived to regret them and usually got stick off other people for our stupidity. If the criticism of what your boyfriend did hurts, that's how life is, you do something wrong and sometimes you pay for it. He will probably find that in addition to any fine his car insurance will go up too.
