Travelling to and from work

I am contracted to work 40 hours a week. Over 2 hours of my day are spent travelling to and from my place of work, is that classed as part of my working day?

If you have a permanent base from which you work set hours then you travel there and back in your own time and at your own expense. If you are for example a social worker you may be allowed to start your day from home if you are en route to a business-related meeting. Ditto at the end of the day if you don't HAVE to go back to the office. It all depends on your employer.

You could choose a job closer to home, or a home closer to your job, but unless you are a mobile employee (and even then there are usually some stipulations) then you are, unfortunately, out of luck. Nice try though.
