SMS to Canada....me again!

To the guys who kindly answered my last post....when texting canadian cellphones would i have to put the alberta area code in after the international code?
i've tried sending a text to the number my friends gave me which starts 780.......i assumed this to be just her standard number so added 01 to the front of the number as this is the canada code. when i try to text however i get a message on screen straightaway saying message sending failed. any tips?

The country code for Canada isn't '01'. In common with the USA, it's simply '1'. Your friend's number, from the UK, will start 00 1 780 but, if you're dialling from a mobile (as you almost certainly are if you're trying to send a text), you should use '+' instead of '00'. This makes the number + 1 780 ...
