we went camping in the lake district last year, hubby and 4 kids was a basic site with small restaurant/ bar, shop, toilet/shower rooms... with the most magnificent views... cant remeber the name of it though, i will have a look and post if i can find it, i found it on the net... if you are not too fussed about swimming pools and night entertainment it would be ideal... we usually go for big park sites, but this made a difference we actually went walking and talked and had fun without having to pour money into arcades etc...
Ambleside has a lovely campsite by the park, it's a great base to explore the lake district and is near a tennis court, bowling green and tennis courts
Try Waterside Farm on the shores of Ullswater. It's a small site with fewer facilities but an idyllic situation. Avoid the bigger and busier site up the hill as it has problems with thefts from tents. Give me a wave as you pass.
try holgates caravan park silverdale - very good for families lots of facilities including a lovely swimming pool
