Hi Postie One hell of a distance! We were going to drive from Brisbane to Darwin but after 5 days of moderate driving we were only half way there. Decided to stop at a place called Rockhampton for a few days and then went back.
It is also debatable as to whether a small camper van would be fit for the job.
Wish u luck anyway. Australia is a smashing country. Rgds Al
Darwin-Perth 4015 km
Perth-Adelaide 2690 km
Adelaide-Melbourne 725 km
Melbourne-Sydney 875 km
Sydney-Brisbane 955 km
Brisbane-Cairns 1700 km
Cairns-Darwin 2705 km
Total for that route = 13665 km or about 8500 miles
However, that route's not truely coastal because it cuts a few corners off. The total true distance is probably approaching 10,000 miles.

Chris
looks like the Australian coastline minus Tasmania is about 16,000km or 10,000 miles

though no doubt there's scope for cutting corners. So that's about the distance from London to Sydney. This could take a while.
the cost of the fuel,it would be cheaper to fly
You'd probably need the same backup team as entrants in the Dakar rally! Don't forget the trailer, for carrying all the spare fuel needed between filling stations.
