At 16 after doing a CBT I believe I can only ride a moped however at 17 I can ride a bike up to 125cc. Is this correct? If so could I just buy a 125cc bike and have it restricted to 50cc so I don't have to mess about selling a moped to buy a bike at 17? If this is even possible would it be legal to drive a bike with gears at 16?

You cant restrict engine size, only power. You also cant ride anything above 50cc when your 16. There are geared 50cc bikes out there though. Hope this helps : )
