We frequently travel via the tunnel to Le Touquet for the weekend, its a fav pasttime of ours. As my husband smokes and always brings back either tobacco or cigarettes he has been told we should head in opposite direction and into belgium as they are cheaper there, can anyone recommend nice hotel/area close to the border please.

How funny - I was in Le Touquet last week - we visited it on the way back to Boulogne to catch the ferry home.Does it cost much to go over via the tunnel??

the cost of using the tunnel has increased considerably over last 3 years but hey i have a cheap option. you can get ticket thru tesco clubcard deal so it doesnt actually cost me any 'money' and only few pounds in vouchers! What did you think of le touquet?? we really are very fond of it - i dont even want to go to belgium but if we dont give it a go we wont know what its like. i guess u prob use tesco as ive just been answerin your ? in body n soul !

thats a good site arty thanx for link - only prob is i dont know (without lookin at map) where nearest nicest place would be!
all the cheap tobacconists are in Adinkerke; the nearest large town is Veurne, both are close to De Panne, which bills itself as "the green seaside of Belgium".

i knew they were struggling financially, where did u hear that news Sherry1??
Eurotunnel were granted Bankruptcy Protection (a bit like US "chapter 11") by the French Courts in August. This gives them 6 months to get an agreement with their creditors, shareholders and bond holders for a restructuring of their debt. If in the event they do go under, the creditors could apply to the French/UK governments to take over the licence and recoup some of their losses.
hiya - I thought it was very pretty. We only had a couple of hours there but I would like to go back
