Hey why not go on your own? If it's a choice between going on your own or not going then GO! Yes, the illuminations are on at the moment, and on Friday nights there are the firework world championships (or something like that). Then all the usual stuff will be there, the Tower, the amusement arcades, the shops, the trams (which you can take to Fleetwood). Why not try it, you might just like it, and if you don't, well, you don't have to go back again!
I love the place, but don't think I'd fancy it on my own - the Pleasure Beach is entertaining enough, and it's got a little shopping centre and a few markets (if you're into that kind of thing), but it'd feel odd on my own I think - if you enjoy anything, or see anything fun, who can you laugh about it with? :(
I've been to Blackpool four times and always at this time of year, although always with various friends.
Most of the things have already been mentioned, such as the Tower - If you don't mind heights, there's a square piece of glass floor at the top, which is great to walk all over. The illuminations (as mentioned) are worth a look, there's plenty of stuff to see on all three of the piers.
The town is a pretty good size, and there's a Sea Life centre and plenty of amusements along the Golden Mile. There's also a zoo, and an outlet shopping centre in Fleetwood, at the end of the tramline.
It may sound as though I'm working for the Blackpool tourist board. I'm not. I live in the South of England, but I've always liked Blackpool since I first went (in 1998), and I've always managed to find plenty to see and do.
I would say NO
We were there this time last year and it was very poor.
The illuminations were good, but we couldn't even get fish and chips on the Sunday night. Lots better places to visit.
