Is this an ideal location to stay when visiting London for 1 night to see a show in the west end ? I would stay nearer but the hotels are either booked, a bit pricey or not what i'm looking for. I've seen a few in Bayswater/Paddington which seem okay. Whats it like getting back to there from the West End late at night ? Any comments or suggestion will help.

If you are talking about leaving the West End around 10.45pm at the end of a typical show, then there's no problem. My general modus operandi is to park at the edge of Zone 2 and tube in and back. It works fine. Paddington's on the outer edge of Z1, so even closer in.

Will probably stay out after the show for a few drinks.....maybe even a club ???? whats it like getting back in the early hours ?
Bayswater is a great place to stay. It tends to be cheaper than the West End but is really close to the centre and next virtually no time to get to anywhere on the tube.
night buses go by Paddington. Taxis too of course but you could be paying 20 or more, so only take one if you're sharing or rich. Tube stops around 12.30.

Thanks for your answers guys....will definately help make a decision.
We stayed at a hotel in Greenwich not too far away from the Dome and were able to get the Jubilee Line tube to anywhere at any time.
London's public transport system is unbelievable......only Londoners don't appreciate just how good it really is.
