Thunder Storms

Can anyone give me an idea of some good places to go to see some spectacular storms?

As per my answer under Animals and Nature on the subject of Thunderbolts if you are really keen I would head to the Northern Territories of Australia during the rainy season, I saw the three astonishing thunderstorms there, 1 at Katherine, 1 off the coast of Darwin and 1 in Kakadu National park.... unbelievable. If that's a bit far from home and assuming you're in the UK I'd suggest the West coast of Ireland or Scotland. Maybe the Isle of Skye, the Cullin Mountains provide a stunning backdrop and you get some impressive storms there.

Florida has some stunners - were there last August and our rented house backerd onto a golf course. We watched a brahma roll in and lighten and thunder for about an hour - with monsson rain, but no drop in temerature. Fifteen minutes after it stoped, it was like it had never been there. Fantastic!

I have to agree with Andy, I saw some amazing storms with very dramatic lightning in Florida. Really exciting to watch. Lots of thunder too.

Worcester last weekend, lightning struck the pylons above us as we rode through it. Amazing.

I experienced a lot of massive thunderstorms in the States - Texas was the most scary place. And I narrowly missed being electrocuted in Maryland when the electric line I was walking under got struck by lightning! That was pretty spectacular.

Tropical Darwin in Australia has some of the most violent thunderstorms on Earth. Nearer to home, most thunderstorms in the UK, tend to work their way up from France or Belguim, so anywhere on the South coast of England is a likely point during the summer for a storm or two.
