We want to get away minus child this saturday to somewhere within a hour-ish drive of manchester, relaxing and in the country with nice pubs and walks - any recommendations for anywhere to head for and any reasonable b and bs?

How about the Peak District. Starting at Hayfield you could do the beautiful Jacobs Ladder walk to Edale. It takes about 2 hours. Have a few beers and something to eat in Edale and then walk back. A nice relaxing day with wonderful scenery all the way.
Keswick in the Lakes, loads of good pubs serving good food, good nightlife take your pick of easy or hard walks and plenty of B&Bs what more do you want?

Forest of Bowland! We stayed at Waddington then drove onto the Trough and cooked a big fried breakfast in the camper looking out at the most beautiful view! FAB!
