Hi I have posted this up before last week but for some reason cant find where it is at , so apologies if its repeated. My question is simple. Do usa authorities at airport have access to your uk police record. I am aware of need for visa etc however I wwish to know simply if they can access your details when they swipe your passport. Much appreciated, thanks
The answer to your simple question is a simple no - when they swipe your passport they are not accessing your UK police record.
They will access whatever details they have on their own computer about you. If you are wanted by interpol there's a good chance you'd be there (but then you wouldn't be travelling under your own name, presumably). If you'd been convicted of a serious crime in the UK (murder, armed robbery, the like) there's a chance you would be there - some information is shared by the UK government. But a caution for a petty crime - no way.
Don't declare it - the immigration officer then has no option but to refuse you entry.
cheers dzdug - its a caution yes for possession of tiny amount of controlled substance (ashamed about it now but learned from it). So basically dont declare it yes?...
You saying in you rlst post if you do declare it then the officer has no choice but to refuse you?............ thanks
seriously just simlie talk to the person make some jokes they will be fine with you. flirt a little u'll b fine.
they swipe your passport so that your passport information comes on the screen then they take you finger print (index finger both hands) then they put both lots of infromation together. sorted.
Hopefully can enjoy it now. I dunno why was stressing in 1st place, there not going to be sharing info on peole who have commited a minor offence and got a caution and nothing else.
You might have got away with it becky h, but, in my experience of US Immigration, talking, jokeing and flirting are anathema to them. They always seem itching to find some petty reason for locking you up whilst they investigate further
Not sure if you still reading this thread but my friend had the same police caution for a controlled drug. His was cocaine so class A and pretty serious - very very silly boy. He had to go to the US for work, felt he couldn't tell work about the issue and simply didn't declare it on the form and had no problems.
On his second visit 6 months later he actually got pullled over and taken into an interrogation room and he assumed he'd been rumbled and was on his way back home to a less than rosy future. However, they simply took his passport away, came back 10 mins later and said "welcome to America". They claim they were just "checking some people out". I believe (but this is a guess) it had something to do with him having a new passport since he went in the last time (so same fingerprints, etc but different passport), etc. In summary, even going through that process nothing came up about the police caution so I think its safe to say you'll be fine. you've probably been and gone by now - how did you get on?
Hi
i am not a expert on this but i thought someone would like to no how i got on
, i recently travelled to USA from LHR going to Orlando but clearing customs in New York. I was worried for Months about my Police Caution and i was sorting from Website -Website trying to get a answer on will i get deported etc etc.
My Caution was in 2007 so it was fairly recent, However going into customs i decided to relax, and i breezed through no questions asked just Fingerprint and Picture taken and passport was stamped, very nice customs people in New York, however the stress of the last 4 months was awful if i could turn the clock back i would apply for a visa as at least you know either way and can relax on the plane and not worry about leaving your loved ones alone .
Thanks very much to the last two people. Very helpful. In the end I diodnt go. I will in the futuire and will report back1 I cant see how it will be detected actually. Its a petty offense and Ive been all over the world, its only the yanks who choose to say you cant access them with a record. Did you know your even supposed to declare speeding convictions! Believe it otr not! Ridiculous.
