Has anyone been on a helicopter ride before? What is it like? Is it similar to being in an aeroplane?

absolutely awesome .Travelled from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon ,the view in a helicopter is brilliant and also, in the helicopter you are closer to the ground which makes it more exciting.

That part of it sounds great. I just meant, does it make you feel air sick or anything?
no not at all.I suppose it's a strange feeling at the beginning but after you realise it's safe and you become more confident you'll start to enjoy it.As far as the feeling of sick and light headed ,can't say i felt like that.
A couple of years ago I went up in a helicopter for the first time. I was terrified beforehand as I didn't think it possible for a helicopter to fly.
It was however great fun. The take-off and landing were so much smoother than in a fixed wing plane and there was much more to see. Enjoy your flight. I still think it's impossible for helicopters to fly though.
I have been twice, once in Florida and once in New York. As has been said you are much nearer the ground so can see the sites much better. I was also impressed with the manoeverability (spelling?) ot them.
been in loads of green and black choppers, army, no probs. went in one traffic reporting chopper and couldn't see out very well ( they stuck me in the middle seat with no real view of the sceanery ) and pukked me self silly.
the moral of this is get a window seat and make sure it's not to windy when you go up.
if it's a touristy grand canyon type then enjoy , it's fantastic.
take some travel sick tablets hour and a half before you go and if you think you need to, top up just before you fly with one more tablet. (obviously be carefull on the dosage and read the instructions before doing how i said)
