In Western Australia petrol is anywhere between $1.10 and $1.30 and diesel is about 5 or 10 cents more. It's usually cheaper in and around Perth and more expensive in rural areas.
Petrol here in New Zealand is about $1.37 per litre for unleaded. Deisel is a cheaper - I think its around 90 odd cents per litre. Im not sure coz I dont have a deisel car. You can get coupons via the supermarkets which can bring the price down by around 10c per litre. Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot, Chit Chat- we arrive in Aukland a week today, hope you have some sun as it is wet and cold here. Lookin forward to seeing your beautiful country (did I really spell deisel like that? - oh dear too many hours pouring over maps!) Strange deisel less expensive in Nz and more in Oz
petrol in south australia is A$1
not much sun in Auckland at the moment but February is usually better. $1.37 is NZ$, not US ones, so that's a bit less than 50p a litre (and I think it works out similar in Australia). Remember diesel used to be cheaper in the UK too till the tax went up.

Thanks again all, I thing we are going to the East Coast of Oz in about a month. So I had quotes for South and West
anyone from the East Coast out there? Oh dear Jno I was hoping for sun, but at least it must be warmer plllllllllease?
Hi Waaii - I live on the south east coast of the North Island in the Wairarapa. Its lovely and warm here - we grow wine here so we do tend to get some good weather. Hope you have a good time whilst you are here in New Zealand.
yup, mid 20s or so (it seldom gets much more than about 30C/85F but often feels a lot warmer and more humid). Leave the fur coat behind, but a light fleece might come in handy in the evenings, especially if you're dining out by the beach or something. Do take, or buy, sunscreen, the sun always seems very bright and you can see for miles and miles even on a dull day. And the wine is great, including the pinots from down chitchat's way.
nice sunny day today, some puffy white clouds, 27 degrees (about 80F). Diesel is about 94c a litre.
oh, and there's a comet clearly visible in the night sky with the naked eye at the moment; should still be there when you land. Hope this info is keeping you all up-to-date...

You are all SO kind, I am getting more excited, it is so nice to have contact with you all, I looked up Wairarapa on the map, I will give you a (metaphorical) wave as we come back up from South Island and pass nearby! It is 6 degrees here, max, so it sounds great and not too hot, just perfect in fact. We shall have a camper and Yes I have sunscreen AND a fleece AND a thin waterproof. WE are not trekkers being not in the first flush of youth!!! But our son did it all and wants us to see everything too. Thanks again
big sigh... Waaii, you will probably pass me going in the other direction as you approach AKL airport, as I shall be heading for LHR in a week at the end of my hols. I too will have my fleece! But you are the lucky one. Have a great time.
Question Author
Paw u Jno, you will need more than a fleece, the fur coat AND the boots would be useful, maybe snow here soon!
Bet you had a great time, did you go all around? What was your favourite? the pinot sounds good/ and the comet, so a night under the stars (in the van!) looking at the sky with a nice glass of pinot sounds just the job.Have a good flight.
PS Hope you are not with BA who go on strike on Monday for 4 days. We are flying Royal Brunai (should be different)
